Murugesh Rudrappa Nirani, born on 18 August 1965 in Basav Hanchal, Bagalkot district, Karnataka, comes from an agrarian family and holds a B.E. in Civil Engineering along with a Diploma in Business Management from Bombay University. He is the founder and chairman of the MRN Group of Industries, which operates in sectors like sugar, ethanol, cement, and power, supporting over 1.2 lakh farmers and employing more than 72,000 people. Entering politics through the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he was first elected as the MLA from Bilgi constituency in 2004 and has served multiple terms. Nirani has held key ministerial positions, including Minister for Large & Medium Industries and, briefly in 2021, Minister for Mines & Geology. He has played a vital role in promoting mega investments through the Global Investors’ Meet, focusing on job creation, infrastructure development, and industrial expansion in Karnataka. Through the MRN Foundation, he actively contributes to healthcare, education, and farmer welfare programs. Recognized for his contributions, he has received honors such as the Make in India Award and honorary doctorates. Known for blending entrepreneurship with public service, Nirani has significantly contributed to boosting Karnataka’s economy and uplifting rural communities.
